Project Leader - Design/Build (Durham)

The Project Leader must be thoroughly familiar with designing and estimating all aspects of landscape construction to include: site analysis, grading, drainage, plant selection and placement, hardscape (patios, walkways, decks, barbecues, gazebos, water features, lighting, etc), and be able to manually design (CAD or free hand) the same.  The Project Leader must have excellent analytical as well as aesthetic skills, provide excellent internal service, and be able to do take-offs.

Skill Set and Educational Requirements

  • Has at least three to five years of experience in related field (irrigation installation, commercial or residential installation, commercial or residential maintenance, hardscape, lighting, etc.)
  • Has a minimum of an associates in landscape related field degree
  • CAD proficiency required
  • Able to communicate in a professional and courteous manner with customers and company staff
  • Able to learn and effectively utilize estimating software (Aspire)
  • Possess a portfolio of at least ten designs that were installed, with photographs of completed jobs
  • Able to conduct a thorough site analysis, analyze drainage and grading requirements
  • Able to calculate related quantities for soil import/export, plants, mulch, and labor requirements
  • Able to design and estimate quickly and efficiently
  • Able to translate designs into working drawings/documents for field personnel
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel and ability to learn additional software systems quickly
  • Proficient in or able to learn goilawn.com and/or Google Earth software

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understands and complies with company policies, procedures, and SOPs for the Project Leader position
  • Maintains schedule identified in office checklist
  • Maintains his/her work area/desk in a neat and orderly fashion
  • Interfaces with CRM/Business Developer and ensures  that all client’s concerns are addressed in a timely and professional manner
  • Assists in writing, maintaining, and updating SOPs for his/her job
  • Accomplish all assigned tasks while maintaining a positive, cheerful, friendly, and helpful demeanor
  • Ensures the maintenance and updating on a daily basis of the Bid Board for his/her division(s)
  • Assists in establishing estimating procedures and standards for his/her division(s)
  • Understands estimating procedures and standards for his/her division(s)
  • Able to accurately perform appropriate take-offs from architectural plans and drawings for:
    • Irrigation systems
    • Masonry
    • Walls, walkways, and patios
    • Landscape planting
    • Site preparation
    • Landscape lightning
  • Able to calculate appropriate mathematical conversions (e.g. tons to CY, CY to tons, etc.)
  • Proficient in calculating appropriate unit prices
  • Analyzes and reviews all bids/proposals prior to submission to Business Developer
  • Assists in establishing parameters for analyzing and reviewing all bids/proposals
  • Ensures with accurate filing of all paperwork and maintains proper security for same for his/her division(s)
  • Ensures with the maintenance of all contract folders for his/her division(s)
  • Communicates professionally and courteously with all personnel inside and outside of the company
  • Maintains a teachable attitude and is eager to learn company procedures
  • Communicates both in writing and verbally with Business Developer, Business Development Coordinator, and Operations Manager regarding the status of all proposals for his/her division(s)
  • Ensures that the Business Developer and Business Development Coordinator are notified of upcoming schedule and any changes thereto for his/her division(s)
  • Establishes design budgets and deadlines for client
  • Designs for jobs are kept on schedule and on budget
  • Conducts appropriate site analysis
  • Monitors the installation of construction projects and interfaces with Project Manager, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Conducts appropriate environmental impact assessment
  • Conducts site visits and ensures project is produced as designed with appropriate materials
  • Analyzes all change orders
