BMPs are treatments to handle stormwater runoff to maintain overall water quality. They include such things as swales, stormwater wetlands and bioretention ponds. Numerous state regulations govern the installation and maintenance of these devices. Inspection and maintenance of BMPs requires knowledge of current regulations and is typically completed by a certified professional. BMP certifications are good for a period of three years and may be renewed by completing additional class work.
