An award-winning landscape company is donating its services for a good cause.
Greenscape is trying to breathe new life into what's now the Durham Rescue Mission's sprawling new Bargain Center west of Brier Creek.
"This property has been abandoned for two or three years, so the property was in really rough shape. So we've been doing a lot of work just to kind of bring it up to maintenance levels," said Greenscape's Vice President Daniel Currin.
Greenscape will be working on the project one day a week and will provide the service free of charge.
The guys over at Greenscape say a job like this could cost upwards of $20,000 a year, but say that the project is worth the loss.
"We've been very fortunate over our 30 years in business and it's important as an organization to give back," said Currin.
"When Greenscape first approached me, my reaction was, "Yes! We need you," said the Rescue Mission's Reverend Ernie Mills.
And Mills went on to say, the gesture goes well beyond just making the property look nice.
"I'm just overwhelmed by their generosity and wanting to help out, because really the poor that we work with they very seldom see anything pretty."
And in several months time, the Bargain Center will be in full bloom.
Greenscape and the Durham Rescue Mission are planning a big clean up day Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Bargain Center.
They're looking for people or businesses to donate mulch, flowers -- even cold drinks.
They also need volunteers.
