When the cold weather arrives, it's time to prepare your home for winter. Here are a few safety tips for your home:

  • If you have an irrigation system and it hasn't been winterized yet, you'll want to do that soon.
  • Remove hoses from outside hose bibs.
  • Close vents on homes with crawl spaces.
  • Have your heater checked by an HVAC professional.
  • Had your chimney cleaned recently?
  • Install a CO2 detector if you have natural gas coming into the home.
  • Replace the batteries in your smoke detectors annually.
  • Be extremely careful using portable heaters.
  • Never run a generator in an enclosed space.
  • Check the attic insulation to see if more would help keep your home warm and utility bill down.

These tips can help keep you safe over the cold winter to come!
